PSM works very hard to emphasize the importance of internships and developing second career interests so that when their playing careers are over, the athlete has specific options of interest and experience to pursue them.
As an example, one of PSM's NFL Football clients, Marc Raab of the 1992-94 Washington Redskins took the correct path to prepare for life after football.
Marc graduated in 1992 after an excellent career as a Long Snapper at the University of Southern California. Fully understanding the high turnover rate in the NFL, Marc worked for Ace Parking and enjoyed four promotions while still playing for the Washington Redskins. In 1994, the Redskins changed coaching staffs and it wasn't long before Marc experienced the real world of professional football. He was released. Instead of panicking and waiting for the next football opportunity, Marc decided to pursue his Masters Degree in 1995. Marc realized that with single position players being fazed out of football, the reality was slim of him getting another shot. Marc completed his Masters Degree in 1997.
PSM continued to keep NFL Teams informed on Marc's availability should they need a Long Snapper. In May of 1997, with no NFL Teams looking to sign a dedicated Long Snapper, Marc was hired by Pacific Bell in San Diego, California. With excellent corporate experience behind him with Ace Parking and a Masters Degree in hand, Marc was promoted three times in his first eighteen months with the company.
In 1998, the San Diego Chargers brought Marc in for a workout and signed him quickly thereafter almost five years to the day after he played in his last NFL game. Marc played very well for the Chargers and was still able to coordinate the practices with his work schedule. Marc's second NFL run was highlighted with him earning the start against the Seattle Seahawks in the second to last game of the season. Marc played flawlessly and all his snaps were perfect. After the season concluded, the Chargers told Marc to be ready for a possible opportunity in 1999.
As usual, Marc kept his priorities in place and went back to work at Pacific Bell and as recently as June 1, 1999 accepted a fourth promotion and a move to Northern California where he currently is the Manager of Pacific Bell Internet and enjoying life with his beautiful wife, Tammy, son Logan, daughter Alyssa and a new baby to come.
Marc's love of football never faltered, but he realized the importance of setting his priorities, responsibilities and goals above and beyond the NFL.
Marc achieved his life long dream of playing in the NFL, and since has moved on to a very successful full time career with Pacific Bell, he doesn't have to play to survive and he enjoys life under the goals he and his wife set for their family.
We at PSM firmly believe that Marc Raab is the model that almost every NFL player should follow, whether they make millions or are a minimum salary player.
Marc, we are proud of your determination, your ability to see the importance of setting your priorities and achieving your dreams.
